John Lion – I don’t Believe In Magic

Dreamy, mysterious, and elegant. Not bad for a song inspired by an overheard train conversation.

Until recently I thought there were two types of people in the world: those who believed love was a chemical reaction in the brain set of by specific triggers; and those who believed it was the movement of energy between people. John Lion has introduced a third group, made up of two ladies he overheard on the train, who believed you can keep someone in love simply by casting a spell.

From this came the inspiration for the singer-songwriter’s dark and ambient first single, exploring just what happens in a relationship when the love and excitement wears off. ‘I don’t Believe in Magic’ is Brit-pop shone through bitter glass to create bitter-sweet world, while John’s voice runs like caramel throughout. As the story unfolds it is impossible not to see it from your own eyes.
