Remember the tension between Sleaford Mods and Idles? No? Let’s catch up…
It is no secret that Jason Williamson has a history of attacking Idles (among many other people) on twitter. In 2019 he explained in an interview that he sees Idles as appropriating a working class voice, when in actuality they are not working class at all.
The Sleaford Mods front man then went on to say the band’s take on political problems was, “cliched, patronising, insulting and mediocre.”
“I then held the belief that they were appropriating, to a certain degree, a working class voice.”Jason Williamson
Now, almost 2 years later, Sleaford Mods drop Nudge It, a track denouncing those who appropriate voices from classes they do not belong to order to appear trendy. Even without names being mentioned it appears the due are kicking the dust back up on that old feud. Sure, Williamson might be denouncing some other “Class tourist” for being “Stuck on silly ideas cos it’s all you can do”, or “just a mind that’s saying and playing sod all” but really, is it possible he did not have Idles in mind at all?
Oh, did we mention Amy Taylor collaborated with Sleaford Mods on this one? It seems Amyl and the Sniffers succeeded where so many other bands failed.
