Sad Events Reoccur: The new single from A Void

Three years since A Void released their debut album, Awkward and Devastated, and the sonic grunge outfit are as fresh and emotionally raw as ever

My first taste of Sad Events Reoccur must have been at New Cross Inn between lockdowns at the only gig I managed to attend. I must confess, I have little recollection of it between the cacophony of chaos that is an A Void live show.

Any apprehensions I had about being seated for a gig with one of the wildest bands in London were dispelled the second they took to the stage and I was blasted back in time to the days of moshpits: when venues smelt of spilt beer, and dancing was limited by nothing more than the stickiness of the floor, all from the comfort of my table.

Listening to Sad Events Reoccur now the true songwriting prowess of A Void shines through. A first for the band, this song comes in two parts: the first sets the scene for a mighty grunge lament, delicate chiming verses punctuated by roaring wave-like breaks, layers of harmony building unrelentingly until we are launched into part 2.

Here A Void swing from extreme to extreme: emotive yet furious, catchy yet unstable, deranged yet lucid, somehow charging through it all into a spectacular payoff.
