One of the things that makes a gig truly special is the moment of looking around the room and seeing a crowd full of characters as bold, unique, and wonderful as the person on stage.
Such a night was Sunday the 25th of October at The Queen’s Head in Brixton. On that night so many of the most wonderful and eccentric people I have had the pleasure of meeting on the music scene these past few years burst out from a long hibernation to share new music, a few drinks and an exquisite night in the dim light of a South London pub. That was the first time I heard Here I Am, as Nick Shake took to the stage: just one man, a guitar, and a series of effect pedals. Now, hearing the recording with a full band, I remember that night as vividly as though I were there now and cannot help but picture all those wonderful people as Nick belts out this anthem to being who you are for everyone to see, letting your barriers down, and acknowledging that there is so much more that makes us the same than divides us.

Over the last year we have been bringing the best new music to you through our reviews and our gigs, now that we cannot gig for a while we have a favour to ask. If you have enjoyed music you discovered through us, danced until your limbs were sore at one of our shows, or performed with us in the past, we would like to tell you about our new Paypal page.
Simply put, we have had no way of making income while unable to put on gigs and would like to keep By The Freaks ad free and available to everyone. If you would like to help us do this you can donate via our Paypal here.
A big thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Rest assured once our website costs are met any extra money will go into By The Freaks, to make what we do better and more exciting than ever!
