If Sleaford Mods, X-Ray Spex, and Thumper had an angry hybrid child, this would be the result.
Deadletter break through the walls of pandemic city with their second single, Fit For Work, plunging deeper into a realm of surreal sonic noises held together by their post-punk roots.
The opening to this track is the sound of some great beast coming out of hibernation, to the rhythm of a bass line which more unearthed than written. The first line, ‘Johnny’s missing two arms but his legs look dandy‘, sets us up for the first taste of a mantra that will take us through the next 3 minutes, ‘Fit for work‘. Each verse simmers away, bubbling over as we enter the chaotic, cacophony of the chorus, an explosion of grinding guitars and squealing saxophone.
Cynical, loud, and industrial, Fit For Work sums up Deadletter’s live show brilliantly and forebodes the monster this band are set to become.
