Tune in, drop out and let the latest addition to the Brighton scene, PoliteBuro, take you through a spiralling tunnel of dark wave and post-punk leading to the cavern of their skittering and unnerving offspring, MiddleChild.
This debut moves like a pool of black marbling ink; smooth and constantly in motion. As the song drives forward the pattern is manoeuvred into different shapes by the constant pokes and stabs from the guitars, causing arcs and ripples which shift through a myriad of twisted shapes; horses galloping down dark labyrinths, black holes in your minds eye, or delicate tendrils reaching from the edges of vision.
While those banshee vocals and reverberating guitar tones bring to mind goth pioneers, such as The Cure the song also conjures to mind a post apocalyptic B-52s with its electronic elements and off-kilter arrangement. The crackling sense of trepidation never becomes too much and as your hair stands up on end you will find yourself lifted, eyes shut, dancing through your hallway imagining you are at the gig where this was first performed.
